A SUSPECTED drug dealer was arrested after police carried out a daylight raid at Northwich address.

Several marked and unmarked police vehicles arrived at the house in Spencer Street, Barnton, around 4.30pm on Thursday, February 9 and found what is believed to have been cocaine.

No-one was at the address at the time so officers forced their way into the property, which has since been boarded up.

A 50-year-old man, from Northwich, was later arrested and bailed.

Insp Dave Snasdell, from the Northwich Police, said: “Police conducted a drugs search at a property in Spencer Street and a quantity of what is are believed to be cocaine was recovered as a result of the warrant and has been sent for further testing.

“A 50-year-old man was arrested on possession with intent to supply cocaine and has since been bailed pending further enquiries to be concluded.”

Eye-witnesses said investigators remained at the property for several hours.

Neighbour Rachel Clarke, 31, said: “I came home and they were arresting a man. I had been out shopping.

"There were two police cars and what I assume was an undercover car. They took him away within about five minutes.

“They were still in the property for another two or three hours after I got back. They were still in there searching."

Ms Clarke said she did not suspect drugs were being dealt from the property.

She told the Guardian that police had been called to several ‘street fights’ on the road in recent months.

She claimed one house had had their window smashed in a dispute.

A police spokesman confirmed the 50-year-old man is due to report back to officers on March 9.
