ANTROBUS children are top of the class when it comes to their reading ability.

Antrobus St Mark’s C of E Primary School is in the top one per cent of primary schools in England for achievement in reading.

The success follows the 2016 key stage two assessments, and saw head teacher Sandra Finney received a letter of congratulations from Westminster.

Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for School Standards, wrote to Mrs Finney to congratulate her, her staff and the pupils for the very high standards the children had achieved in reading.

“Your school’s results show that 100 per cent of your pupils reached or exceeded the expected standard in reading at the end of key stage two,” said Mr Gibb in the letter.

“We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in reading to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this to all your pupils.

“Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards.”

Mrs Finney said: “Hot on the heels of our successful Ofsted, I am delighted to receive a letter from Nick Gibb congratulating the school on their marvellous KS2 SATS results.

“Against a backdrop of very unsettling times in education, the pupils and parents at Antrobus St Mark’s can be confident in the continued commitment and dedication of all the staff.”
