AN appeal has been launched after a 78-year-old man died following a four-car crash on the A556 near Northwich.

At approximately 6.15pm on Thursday, February 9, police officers were called to reports of a serious collision on the A556 near Northwich.

The collision, which involved blue Peugeot 307, a white BMW 1 Series, a black Audi A5 and a blue Ford Focus, occurred on the Manchester bound carriageway near the Davenham Roundabout.

The driver of the Peugeot 307, a 78-year-old man from Swindon, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Leighton hospital.

He died as a result of his injuries.

Next of kin have been informed and they are currently being supported by specialist officers from Wiltshire Police.

The driver of the BMW, a 25-year-old woman from Northwich, was also taken to Leighton Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

The driver of the Focus, a Northwich woman, and the driver of the Audi, a Northwich man, were both uninjured.

Officers are now appealing for information.

Investigating officer, Sgt Andrew Dennison, said: “The A556 is a busy road and is one of the main routes between Chester and Manchester.

“As part of this investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of incident and believes that they may have witnessed the collision.”
