A 73-YEAR-OLD man was left ‘traumatised’ after he was attacked by youths at the Odeon in Barons Quay.

The Northwich pensioner, who wishes to remain anonymous, took what he thought would be a relaxing Sunday afternoon trip to the new cinema on January 15.

But things quickly took a turn for the worse once the man was in the theatre.

He told the Guardian: “Sitting on the row at the back behind me were two young boys and a blonde girl.

“I didn’t notice them at first but all through the trailers and the film they were laughing and talking. They were throwing popcorn over me.

“Later on one of them set off a party popper. Five minutes later they showered me with liquid.”

It was at this point the elderly man decided enough was enough, and got up to leave.

As he got up and turned around, he said he crunched a drink that was in the seat holder, and it spilled on one of the boys.

He said: “The boys both got on their feet and one of them pushed me. The girl then threw a can of Sprite over me.

“Lots of people in the audience were saying ‘leave that man alone’. I am 73 years of age, I recently had a colostomy because I had bowel cancer.

“I was really quite traumatised and upset.”

Odeon staff intervened and the police were called. An Odeon spokesman said they are assisting the police with their enquiries.

The spokesman said: "The wellbeing and safety of our guests is of the utmost importance to us, and we are assisting the police fully with any further enquiries."

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 416 of January 15.
