A KNITTING group is seeking new members to join their ranks in Northwich.

The Knit and Natter group meets at the library every Thursday from 3pm to 4pm.

A handful of regulars attend the weekly sessions but the tight-knit group are looking for others to join them in 2017.

Sue Mckenzie, Northwich library assistant, said: “Anybody is welcome. Whether they are experienced or not, it doesn’t matter.

“You have to start somewhere.”

Sue also said the group would like to see some men join them.

“It would be nice to have a few men,” Sue said.

Jyoti Awasthi, 32 and Manali Saxenea, 29, both from India, have regularly attended the sessions for around six months.

Manali, who is a volunteer at the library, began coming to the classes with Jyoti around six months ago and the pair have been hooked ever since.

Manali, who has lived in Northwich for 18 months, said: “I started doing knitting and then I jumped on crochet. I do enjoy it a lot, we sit down, have a cup of tea and drive each other into different conversations.

“It’s a bit of a get together every week. I don’t know what’s next, but I’m ready to take it on.”

Jyoti, who has been in the UK for six months, said the classes have helped her settle into life in Northwich.

Jyoti said: “I’m learning to knit and it’s very relaxing too.”

The group is held together by seasoned knitter Dot Finemore.

“She is my teacher,” Jyoti said.

The group call jokingly refer to Dot as the ‘oracle’.

Dot said: “I’ve had two new knees so I’ve ended up just doing knitting to get out to see people.”
