HEAD teacher Sandra Finney has been praised for identifying areas she feels could be improved in the short time she has been in charge.

Mrs Finney is head teacher at Great Budworth Primary School and Antrobus St Mark’s C of E Primary School, having been appointed in September to lead the latter.

The praise for Mrs Finney comes from schools inspector Mark Quinn in a report which followed his Ofsted inspection at Antrobus St Mark's in November.

In a letter to Mrs Finney, Mr Quinn said: “Even though you have been in post for a short time you have quickly identified areas you feel could be improved.

“You have taken effective action to address the small number of issues raised by recent published assessment information, such as writing in key stage one and phonics in year 1.

“The school continues to be good, and the leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.”

Mrs Finney said: “The Ofsted report is testament to the dedication and commitment of all at the school.

“I am particularly pleased the broad, balanced and good quality curriculum was identified as a real strength of the school because I passionately believe to produce lifelong learners education should be exciting, stimulating and about so much more that SATs and league tables.

“Here at Antrobus St Mark’s our children thrive, academically, creatively, socially, physically and spiritually in this caring and friendly atmosphere.”

Mr Quinn said the vast majority of parents were very positive about the work of school leaders and staff.

“They felt the atmosphere is welcoming and their children are valued,” he said.

“These comments are a testament to the work that you [Mrs Finney] and your staff do to create such a warm and caring learning environment.

“There is a very obvious sense of team spirit among your staff. They are proud to work at the school, and feel that you lead it well.

“You have robust systems in place to check on the quality of teaching and learning in the school.”

The school was also judged to be good in 2012.
