WINCHAM families will be welcoming Santa to their streets in the run-up to Christmas after winning a visit from Santa and his helpers.

Santa will be calling in the village on Thursday, December 22, as part of the annual sleigh stops organised by Northwich Round Table.

The Round Table offered residents the chance to vote for an area where they would like Santa to visit on that evening.

People nominated their community or street on Facebook, and Wincham, which was not one of Santa’s scheduled stops, was a clear winner.

Santa will be calling in the village between 5.15pm and 7.30pm, and details will be publicised on the Round Table’s Facebook page.

“It’s lovely that Santa will be visiting because we have such a strong community spirit in Wincham,” said Wincham parish councillor Annie Makepeace.

“It is lovely that the children have something for them, and I hope they will all come out to welcome Santa.”

Round Table vice-chairman Craig Walker said it was the first time the group had held a public vote for Santa to come out to an area not covered by the sleigh run.

“Every year we get requests from people to visit certain areas, and Wincham was the clear winner by a long chalk from the nominations from the public,” he said.

“It’s nice to be able to visit as many streets as we can, and the more members we have the more areas we can cover.

“I would like to thank everyone who takes part in the Santa run and for the public’s generous donations as we visit their streets.”

The Round Table’s Santa Run sees six group members accompanying Santa, collecting as he visits streets across the town, and the Round Table collects on average £150 an hour.

The sleigh run is organised by Northwich Round Table and Rotary Northwich Vale Royal, runs until December 23, and you can follow Santa’s progress by visiting sleightracker.co.uk.

Details of the main roads on each route are posted on the organisations’ Facebook pages, and anyone who is interested in joining Northwich Round Table can email northwichroundtable@gmail.com
