DRUG hotspots were targeted by a special police task force last week.

On Tuesday, November 29, Cheshire Police began an operation within the Northwich area conducted by a team of Special Constabulary officers.

The following day, targeted three known drug hotspots across the town. The operation involved a mixture of high visibility patrols, plain clothes officers and unmarked vehicle from Task Force Crime Car and traffic unit.

Part of the aim of the operation was target drug supply from out of the area. The operation resulted in a number of arrests.

A 63-year-old man from Northwich and a 32-year-old man from the Merseyside area were arrested in Leftwich on suspicion possession with intent to supply, after officers found a quantity of class “A” drugs. They have been bailed pending forensic enquires.

A 21-year-old man from Northwich was stopped with others in a car in Shipbrook Road area of Rudheath with a quantity of heroin and crack cocaine.

He has been charged with possession with intent to supply class “A” drugs and been remanded in custody.

Chief Insp Simon Meegan, from Northwich Local Policing Unit (LPU), said: “This was a successful operation as we continue to target those that supply drugs in our communities. Drugs have such a devastating effect on people’s lives and I would encourage anyone with information regarding the supply of drugs to contact us.”

Police also arrested a man for driving under the influence of drugs after a drugs swipe test proved positive for drugs.

Insp Dave Snasdell, from the Northwich LPU said: “These operations are to reassure the community we are doing are up most to target street dealing in the area and take individuals off our roads who have disregard to traffic legislation.”
