POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Davenham by a man who offered her a lift home.

The victim, an 18-year-old local woman, was walking alone alongside the bypass near to the Blue Bridge in Hartford between 6am and 6.45am on Saturday, November 12 when a ‘small black vehicle’ pulled over at the side of the road and a man offered her a lift home.

After picking up the victim the man continued to drive along the A556, before turning right onto Hartford Road and then left onto London Road at the junction near the Oddfellows Arms in Davenham.

As the car approached the Davenham Roundabout the man pulled over at the side of London Road and then sexually assaulted the victim, telling her she was not allowed out of the vehicle until she ‘slept with him.’

The victim was able escaped the car and fled the scene but suffered light bruising and scratches.

The offender is described as a man, approximately 40-years old, of large build and of Indian origin.

He had thick dark hair, stubble and bushy eyebrows and was wearing a gold coloured ring on his third finger on his right hand. The vehicle is described as a dark, two door hatchback-style car.

PC Andrew Mullin, the investigating officer, said: “Thankfully the victim was able to escape from the vehicle, although she has been left extremely shaken as a result of this incident.

“I urge anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact the team here at Northwich so the offender can be brought to justice.

“I would also like to remind people to take extra care when out alone and not get into vehicles with anyone that they don’t know.”
