A COMMUNITY group in Whitegate has launched a new initiative to help people with mobility problems get out and about on trikes and tandem bikes.

The Whitegate Station Community Group has opened a new trike shed at Whitegate Station and is offering to hire out the trikes and tandem bikes as well as all the safety equipment.

“It’s great fun and a way to get active on the Whitegate Way,” said Julie Ellis.

“We also want to encourage young families and those with mobility problems to be able to access the lovely countryside around the cafe.”

To hire one of the trikes it costs £5 per hour.

Cllr Mike Baynham, Winsford Over and Verdin ward member at Cheshire West and Chester Council, officially opened the trike shed.

He said it is a good way to encourage people to enjoy the countryside in the area.

Cllr Baynham said: “This community initiative is going from strength to strength. Whitegate is a bit of a tourist area and this can combine the two aspects of encouraging people to go out and enjoy the amazing countryside in the area like Whitegate Way with the obvious health benefits of cycling.

“I had a go on the tandem bike and it was great fun.I’d encourage everybody to go along, get a little fitter and enjoy the countryside.”
