MEDAL winners Matt Langridge and Pete Mitchell are to switch on Northwich’s Christmas lights tomorrow at 6pm.

Matt took rowing gold at the Rio Olympics, and Pete won cycling silver at the Rio Paralympics.

They will be helped to light up the town by Northwich town mayor Councillor Kevin Rimmer and school children who won a Christmas lights design competition.

The competition was run by the Northwich Business Improvement District and Northwich Town Council in conjunction with Blachere Illumination, and children had to come up with a festive creation to feature in the town’s Christmas lights show this winter.

There was one winner from each of the four schools which took part, and their designs are now set to come to life as individual Christmas lights, which can be seen at the library.

The winners were Tony Hassall-Brown from Charles Darwin, Isabelle Hilton from Leftwich Primary, Ruby Ballance Riley from Witton Church Walk and Natalia Lescinska from Victoria Road.

Tony designed a Christmas tree, Isabelle an inviting present, Ruby a beautiful piece of holly and Natalia created a festive robin.

“Their designs look great, and will be a welcome addition to the town’s festive lights,” said a BID spokesman.
