STUDENT Laura Hunt is enjoying using a state-of-the-art wheelchair thanks to the generosity of Helsby Golf Club.

The 20-year-old from Northwich was presented with a powered wheelchair at a Glitz and Glamour charity evening in the pavilion at Chester Racecourse.

The evening was raising money for the golf club’s powered wheelchair appeal, with Laura receiving one of a number of wheelchairs presented on the night.

Laura, who is unable to walk unaided, is taking a business and tourism course at Mid Cheshire College, and is a member of the Cheshire Penguins Swimming Club.

She was presented with a lightweight wheelchair in 2013, which was funded by Vale Royal Lions Club.

Dawn and her daughter had been seeking to obtain funding for a new wheelchair until the golf club stepped in to help.

“The powered wheelchair is fantastic, and will give Laura much more independence and make her life a bit easier,” said Laura’s mum Dawn.

“Laura is thrilled to bits with the wheelchair.

“Her wheelchair was the 350th one presented by the golf club, and I would like to thank the club and all those people who made this happen.

“The whole evening was truly awesome and humbling and very emotional.”

Dawn paid special thanks to Keith O’Neil, Penny Ainsworth, Steve Cunniffe and Claudia Dickens.
