CHRISTMAS has come early for much-loved grandparents Christine and Peter Parry in the form of festive hampers.

The hampers were presented by the manager of the new Northwich Asda store after the couple won our competition to find the town’s best grandparents.

We ran the competition with the supermarket, which donated the hampers as the prizes for the winners.

The Winsford couple have eight grandchildren, aged five to 27, and one great grandchild, and received their prizes from Asda store manager Katie Coburn.

Christine, 71, was nominated by grandchildren, sisters Jade and Amelia Creer, 27 and 22 respectively, and Ryan Attwell, 25.

“It was a lovely surprise to win the hampers, and we are very appreciative of what our grandchildren have done,” said Peter, 68.

“Christine looks after the grandchildren non-stop, and we love having them at our house.

“We have all the grandchildren with their parents at our home for breakfast on Christmas Day.”

Jade said: “My nan has the children all the school holidays when they are off,” said Jade.

“She loves to help and feel needed, and the children keep her going.

“An elderly couple across the road were admitted to a nursing home, and for months she looked after their property.

“She will do anything for anyone, lifts here and there, nipping to the shop for you, looking after you when you’re ill.

“My nan loves to help, she is an amazing lady and has looked after many of her friends and relatives over the years.

“I can’t describe how much she means to me and us all. She is fantastic, and I don’t know what I’d do without her.

“I tell her all the time how great she is and how much I love her.”

Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans is to cut a ribbon to open the Northwich Asda store next Monday, November 28, at 10am.

He will be helped by the winner of a salt art competition, which saw schools submit art created from coloured salt.

Katie Coburn said: “Christine and Peter are a lovely couple, and I was delighted to present them with their hampers.

“The Asda store is looking amazing, and the colleagues we have recruited are excited about the store opening.”

Shoppers can enter prize draws to win gift cards to spend instore, will be able to sample Christmas and bakery products, and a brass band will keep shoppers entertained.
