PARISH council chairman Alison Gerrard has welcomed a planned pedestrian crossing on a main route into Rudheath.

The crossing is due to be installed on the A530 King Street, between the junctions with Cookes Lane and School Road North.

It would be adjacent to the BP petrol station, and is being funded by the developer of the housing scheme in Cookes Lane, which is near the A556 roundabout.

“The crossing is needed because of the volume of traffic that uses that road,” said Cllr Gerrard, chairman of Rudheath Parish Council.

“The road is one of the main routes into Rudheath and Lostock Gralam, and it is difficult to cross, particularly at peak traffic times.”

Councillor Karen Shore, Cheshire West and Chester Council Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “The new pedestrian crossing is part of the Cookes Lane residential development.

“Consultation has taken place with both Cheshire West and Chester Council and Rudheath Parish Council about the location of the crossing on King Street.”

A Cheshire West spokesman said the crossing was aimed at providing for the safe crossing of pedestrians across the A530 King Street, and the housing developer would fund all of the costs of the crossing under a Section 278 agreement.

Initial consultation had taken place about the location of the crossing, he said, and once the design was finalised, there will be further consultation.

He added that the date for the installation of the crossing would depend on the detailed design completion and consultation.
