AI robots will stage an epic battle for a chance to win thousands of pounds for their creators.

The Hut Group, which is based in Northwich, is looking for some of the brightest young minds to join its coveted Leadership Programme – as well as claim part of a £40,000 pot of cash.

The scheme provides graduates with a fast-track opportunity to become global business influencers and has produced three board level executives under the age of 27.

To be in with a chance of claiming part of the pot, the online retailer will task entrants to build a digital AI robot tank to battle others in real time.

The Robocode competition will stream live to showcase each robot’s performance against those of other applicants, as well as The Hut Group’s in-house robots.

Whoever conquers all challengers will claim a maximum £10,000 prize, with £5,000 and £1,000 for second and third place.

Winning a place on the Leadership Programme won’t be quite so easy though, as entrants will also have to overcome at least one of a number of challenges.

Graduates can choose to enter one of three marketing challenges, in which those successful will present to The Hut Group's founders, or take part in the Robocode online battle.

Entrants can choose to take as many challenges and whichever tasks they wish.

The top prize for each mission is £5,000 with £2,000 and £1,000 to be awarded for second and third place respectively.

The shortlisted applicants will be invited to a final round at The Hut Group headquarters where they will pitch to the company’s founders, Matthew Moulding and John Gallemore.

Mr Moulding, chief executive of The Hut Group, said: “Life is short and we want to work with the most passionate, interesting people to build something truly special on a global stage.

“I am committed to making The Hut Group the best place for talented graduates and these challenges give a flavour of the real questions we are trying to answer.”

The competition is now live at challenge.thehutgroup.com

The deadline for entries is Friday, December 2, with the pitching stage for successful entrants confirmed for Wednesday, December 14.
