YOUNG runners have been thanked by a major cancer charity for their efforts.

The whole school at Comberbach Primary took part in a Race for Life in aid of leading charity Cancer Research UK.

A total of 190 pupils and staff ran round the school field for the charity, and raised £2,863 in sponsorship in the process.

“Each class had 20 minutes to do as many laps as possible around the school field,” said Michelle Oakes, the school’s PE co-ordinator, who organised the event.

“Children in the reception class did on average eight to nine laps each, and year six pupils did between 12 and 14 laps each.

“Our pupils are absolutely fantastic where PE is concerned.”

Every pupil received a medal from Cancer Research UK for taking part in the fundraiser, and the school received a certificate from the charity to acknowledge its support for Race for Life.
