ROBERTS Bakery’s team of fundraising bike fanatics is on the last leg of its 320-mile cycle from London to Paris – hoping to raise £9,000 for Prevent Breast Cancer.

This feat follows last week’s fundraising open day event at Dave’s Gym.

There four of the six cyclists from the family-run bread bakers – who are participating in the event as part of Team Prevent Breast Cancer – undertook their final training session on exercise bikes.

Dave’s Gym provided the backdrop for the fundraising event and gym members and visitors to the Station Road fitness centre donated to Prevent Breast Cancer - the only UK charity dedicated to predicting and preventing the disease.

Monies raised will help fund research to revolutionise breast cancer screening and save future lives.

Roberts Bakery Director Stuart Spencer-Calnan trains daily at Dave’s Gym, took part in the weekend’s fundraiser and is also cycling from London to Paris.

In advance of the cycle, Stuart said: “Everyone in the cycling team has been touched by cancer of some type at some stage, so it goes without saying we are both excited and committed to complete this cycling challenge.

“We really do want to help make a difference for those who suffer from breast cancer in the future.

“Our four-day journey will begin in London and head to Calais, passing the famous white cliffs of Dover on the way. We’ll then cycle through Northern France’s rolling landscapes until we reach the medieval village of Arras.

“By day three we aim to be cycling through the historic region of Somme to the town of Compiegne, which since 1968 has been the starting point of one of France’s most famous cycling races – the Paris-Roubaix.

"Then our ride will come to an end on day four as we will ride through quiet villages around the outskirts of Paris towards our final destination, the Eiffel Tower.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity, on behalf of everyone at Roberts Bakery, to thank all at Dave’s Gym for their immense support in our fundraising efforts.

“Dave Mather, his son Neil and daughter Karen helped to organise such a fantastic event last weekend.

“The support they gave us – as well as the very generous gym-related raffle prizes that they donated – is very much appreciated.”

Roberts family director Lindsay Occleston said: “We’ve received so much encouragement and donations so far, but we would still like to ask the people of Northwich to continue to support us in our fundraising efforts.

“By joining together we really can help prevent breast cancer forever. So for those who’d like to make a donation, however small, please visit our Just Giving page. All donations are very gratefully received.”

Joining Lindsay and Stuart on the cycle are Roberts Bakery team members - direct delivery driver Gary Such, assistant team leader Mark Jervis, facilities manager Rob Newton and driver trainer Lee Challiner.
