MORE than 1,800 people enjoyed some Wild West action at the Anderton Boat Lift.
The free weekend event saw the site transformed by authentic living history displays, including a mine and camps.
Wild West activities ran throughout the day featuring costumed Wild West characters.
Graham Wood, duty manager at the Anderton Boat Lift, said: “The crowds loved the very dramatic ‘live action’ shows featuring a ‘show down’ between Mexican bandits and gold mine prospectors.
“It was a very good atmosphere with people enjoying talking to the Sherriff, preacher and Temperance Society.
“What’s more, the children had a chance of finding out what a school would have been like in the Wild West.
Moe Treweek, Sandbach-based Lonestar organiser, said: “The free Wild West weekend was a great event. The weather was lovely and the event well-attended.
“Everyone had lots of fun – the live shows drew large crowds and a particular ‘hit’ with the children was the special old-fashioned ‘Olympic’ games featuring races such as the potato and spoon races and three-legged races.
“It was lovely to see everyone having such a wonderful day. We are definitely hoping to come back next year.”
