THOUSANDS of families flocked to Moss Farm to enjoy four days of fun over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Former heavyweight boxing champ Frank Bruno officially kicked off the 32nd Northwich Festival, which is organised by Northwich Rugby Club, on Thursday evening.

On Friday guests enjoyed a variety of activities as part of Cheshire Independent Living Day. Saturday saw Northwich X Factor showcase a host of talented musicians, followed by a Big Soul night.

Things went up a gear on Sunday as guests were treated to a motorbike and scooter show, followed by an evening band night featuring Beaver and Slug.

A massive car boot and classic car show took place on the final day of the festival, which was followed by afternoon arena activities including dancing teams, a judo demonstration, strongman competition and a pie eating contest.

Other attractions included James Dylan’s Stunt World, the Land Rover Terrain Challenge, a martial arts demonstrations, Hartford Golf Club golf instruction and stands and stalls.

Steve Farrell, one of the organisers and committee member of Northwich Rugby Club, said this year’s event was a ‘fantastic success’.

He said: “Of course the festival was again so successful because of the unstinting efforts of volunteers from Northwich Rugby Club, which I take my hat off to.

“We are a volunteer club. Our strapline is, the team of the town. We do an awful lot of community activities and outreach programmes within the community.

“What we’re trying to do, as part of the Northwich regeneration plan, is make Northwich a place that people would want to live, and the festival is part of that.”

Steve added that festival organisers would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to neighbours and would like thank them for their tolerance and understanding on behalf of the many charities that will benefit from the festival.
