VILLAGE show organisers are inviting long-standing judge Roger Fairweather to present the prizes this year as he bids farewell to the area.

Mr Fairweather has been a judge at the popular Norley Village Garden Show for 20 years.

He is due to move from the area, and is to present the awards at the 2016 community celebrations, which takes place on Saturday, September 3.

It is 20 years since the show started at the Tiger’s Head pub at Pytchleys Hollow in Norley, which is again playing host to an event which attracts hundreds of villagers and visitors.

“The show is very important as it brings the village together,” said show committee chairman John Lewis.

“It is the highlight of the year in the village, and attracts all ages as well as people from outside Norley.

“We have 90 classes this year, and in addition to the usual vegetables, fruit, flowers, cookery, handicrafts, hobbies, photography and children’s classes we have a very popular dog show.”

The show also features craft stalls, cake and produce stalls, plant stalls, games, a barbecue, face painter, children’s activities and a raffle.

“Last year’s show was attended by between 400 and 500 people, and the show has something for everyone,” said Mr Lewis.

“We have 10 cups and two junior shields, and rosettes for the winners in the dog show.”

The dog show is being sponsored by Gibsons Mill at Kingsley.

Entry forms must be handed in no later than 6pm on Thursday, September 1.

Exhibits should be taken to the marquee at the back of the Tiger’s Head between 9.30am and 11am on Saturday – no exhibits after 11.15am please.

Judging will take place between 11.30am and 1.30pm, and the marquee will be open for viewing exhibits from 2pm.

The following will be awarded: Ted Dean Cup, Anne Brindle Cup, Junior Awards, John Astbury Cup, Harold Smith Cup, The Rookery Cup, Jack Brindle Cup, Norman Orme Memorial Cup, Junior Cup, Sean Wilson Photography Cup.
