HUNDREDS of real ale enthusiasts are expected to descend on Northwich for the annual beer festival.

Now in its 23rd year, the Northwich Beer Festival takes place at the Memorial Court on Friday, September 16, from 5pm-11pm, and Saturday, September 17, from 12pm-4pm and 7pm-11pm.

Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Northwich and Northwich Vale Royal, the beer festival will feature a large range of beers from breweries across Cheshire and beyond.

Steve Wheat, of the Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal and vice chairman of the Northwich Beer Festival, said: “We're looking forward to building on last year's successful return to the Memorial Court and trying to procure as many beers as possible from our wonderful Cheshire Breweries.

“There are currently around 34 breweries in the county and we hope to have available a good selection of their collective produce.”

Steve confirmed the current list features 56 beers, subject to September availability.

The list features offerings from the county’s most prominent brewers, including Storm's Tornado and Brainstorm, Dunham Massey's Gold and Ruby Sunset, and Coach House's Blueberry.

There will also be offerings from some of the lesser-known breweries.

There will also be classic offerings from brewers based outside of Cheshire, including a firm favourite from Phoenix Brewery, which are based in Greater Manchester.

Steve said: “Rest assured that Phoenix's Wobbly Bob will also put in an appearance. It wouldn't be the same without it would it?

"Craft Ciders are available too and a free Driver’s Bar.”

The beer festival will also feature live music throughout the two-day event.

Kit and the Ice Fish will play on Friday evening and Spitting Feathers will play on Saturday.

A number of Cheshire charities are also set to benefit from fundraising at the Northwich Beer Festival.

These include Cheshire Downs Syndrome Support Group, which support parents and carers and children; Lostock Scouts, which are fundraising for their centenary; Speakability, a self-help group for people who have asphasia; and Sandiway and the Cuddington Playing Fields Children's Play area appeal.

Tickets for the Festival are available from Northwich Tourist information office, Memorial Court Reception, Jack Gee's cycles or online northwichbeer.wixsite.com/northwichbeer/tickets
