HISTORY graduate Tom Whitehead is inviting children to help solve 'a scandalous crime' at the Lion Salt Works Museum.

Museum learning assistant Tom, from Cuddington, is a learning assistant at the museum, and will be introducing younger visitors to the museum in a ‘living history’ mystery event - ‘Scandal at the Lion Salt Works’.

Tom, 25, who wrote and presents the mystery said: “I come from Northwich, and with a history degree from Royal Holloway, London University, I am passionate about bringing our local history and heritage alive to children.

“By understanding more about the salt industry and the people who worked in it I hope to trigger a life-long interest in the history they see around them every day.”

The interactive ‘Scandal at the Salt Works’ is a mystery. The salt work’s foreman is attacked and wages are stolen, but strangely, there is no sign of the culprit.

Only the audience of young new Special Inspectors can help Inspector DC Thomas get to the bottom of the scandalous crime.

Tom added: “This event is fun, entertaining and educational, and not only aims to introduce children to the salt works but help them understand the jobs people did and understand things in the wider historical context, such as prejudice against boat people.”

The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 4pm, and is suitable for children aged six to 12.

Booking is not required, and a £1.50 donation is suggested. For more information visit westcheshiremusuems.co.uk.
