NORTHWICH’s community fun weekend promises to be ‘bigger and better’ than ever as the annual event returns this year for two days.

The annual event takes place on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday July 31, from 10am to 5pm at Vickersway (Roker) Park, Manora Road.

The event began in in 2012 and has grown every year.

“The event started when the Queen celebrated her jubilee, and it’s just got bigger and better each year,” Chris Shaw, Northwich Town Council, clerk, said.

This year Northwich Town Council decided to hold the event over two days.

“It’s twice as big as last year, and it’s over two days now,” he said.

“We had the infrastructure in place. It just seemed a shame just to do it over one day, because some people can’t come on the Saturday.

“The council were totally behind expanding it. They want to put on bigger and better events for the town centre. They want community first events that are affordable.

“We still try to keep everything cheap because it’s a community day. There’s something there for everyone,” Chris said.

Cllr Brian Jamieson, Northwich Town Council member for Leftwich ward, said town councillors decided to hold the event over two days due to the positive response from families in the area.

“Let’s hope for good weather and an enjoyable summer weekend,” he said.

“Our staff and volunteers deserve a vote of thanks for all the hard work they put in to making sure this event is bigger and better each year.”

A full programme of entertainment has been planned over the weekend, many of which will be free of charge.

These include fun fair rides, face painting, donkey rides, crazy golf, laser clay shooting, skittles, ginger bread decorating, Segways and tractor and trailer rides.

Children will also be able to get up close with the birds of prey and Stockley farm animals.

There will also be plenty to keep the adults entertained, including charity, craft and exhibition stands, BBQ, homemade cakes, afternoon tea, and a selection of craft ales in Ale on a Bale.

Guests will also have the chance to win a Waitrose Hamper – but they’ll have to work up a sweat on a spin bike.

There will also be a selection of live music from Cheshire musicians throughout the weekend.
