RESIDENTS have been warned of potential the consequences while playing the smartphone game that has took the world by storm.

Pokémon Go, which was officially launched in the UK last week, has quickly become one of the most used smart device apps in history.

The game is a location-based augmented reality mobile game that sees players venture outdoors in the quest for pocket monsters.

However, a number of reports have surfaces from around the world of users coming unstuck due to their focus on the game.

Now, Inspector Dave Snasdell, of the Northwich Local Policing Unit, has issued a warning to Cheshire players.

He said: “Millions of people are joining the new phenomenon – Pokémon Go – which is sweeping through the country after its launch this week.

“America has seen numerous accidents and crimes as a result of people playing this game so be cautious and careful.

“Most people are walking around with an expensive iPhone in their hand holding it out at arm’s length. You could be a victim of crime having the phone stolen.

“Make sure you know where your children are going out to hunt the characters.

“Don’t drive and use the mobile phone to play the game you could end up with a fixed penalty or even worse involved in a serious collision.”
