A LIST of unsolved murders across Cheshire has been released by police, with one in Middlewich, one in Winsford and two in Northwich still without suspects.

Police have released the list which details 15 cases spanning from 1953 to 1998 that have still not been cracked.

Middlewich solicitor, Herbert Wilkinson, was found dead in a shallow grave on October 9, 1967 in a wooded area close to the Trent and Mersey Canal at Whatcroft.

The victim had been reported missing from home by relatives before being discovered murdered with severe head injuries. He had been strangled with an unknown ligature.

On February 15, 1978 just before 10am, 72-year-old Leslie Alan Guntrip was found dead in Bradford Mill Farm where he lived in Winsford, by a bread delivery man. Following a police investigation it was revealed that Mr Guntrip had been hit multiple times in the head with a blunt instrument.

The motive appeared to be robbery but the only item taken from the cottage, which has been described as ‘isolated’, was a single barrelled shotgun.

The two Northwich cases both occurred in 1998 although police have not said whether they are believed to be linked.

Julia Webb, 52, was discovered on July 22 at 5.30pm in a wooded area adjacent to Kennel Lane in Sandiway.

Mrs Webb was attacked with a blunt instrument leaving her with fatal head injuries.

Another murder victim, 42-year-old Charles Raymond Jones, was found in Parkfield Road in Rudheath.

He was discovered just after midnight on January 26, 1998 lying dead in the street with a serious head injury.

In addition to these crimes, the police also included details of unsolved cases from across the county which include those Walter Albert Humphrey who was found dead in Field House, Marthall in 1953, Harry Baker whose body was found on the A50 at High Legh in 1958 and the body of 18-year-old hitchhiker Jackie Ansell Lamb who was discovered in Mere in 1970, as well as Brenda Evans, 17, found in Chester in 1977; and 3-year-old Johnathan Ball and 12-year-old Timothy Parry who were killed in a bomb blast in Warrington the day before Mother’s Day in 1993.
