NORTHWICH Victoria goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe is hopeful of a successful season ahead after committing his future to the club.

The stopper joins defenders Matthew Regan and Alex Byrne in agreeing to stay at the club to supplement the signings of another defender, George Grayson, and attacking midfielder Tyler Edwards.

“We had a great season last season for me personally; and for all the team together,” said Springthorpe.

“The FA Cup run was a massive highlight; to get to the second round proper, and with all the replays against higher-league opposition we won, was a top effort from everyone.

“I feel like I have unfinished business after not getting promotion last year and that’s one of the big reasons for me re-signing; I want to win things, and I think I can do that here.”

However, captain Mike Clarke and top scorer Richie Bennett have dealt manager Adam Lakeland a blow by leaving the club.

Clarke has joined former Vics boss Jim Gannon at Stockport County, with full back Scott Duxbury and forward Josh Amis also making the move to Edgeley Park.

Bennett and winger Jordan Williams have moved to National League side Barrow, while striker Gary Burnett has joined Colwyn Bay.

Like local rivals Witton Albion, Vics have been moved by the FA to the Northern Premier League Division One South for the upcoming season.
