VILLAGE fete organiser Mary Savage is using her poetic skills to promote a popular community celebration.

The Lostock Green Methodist Church village fete is taking place on Saturday, July 16, and is to feature a range of family games and activities among the attractions on the day.

The event will be a memorable occasion for Charlotte Green, who is to be crowned as the Sunday School Queen.

Charlotte, six, is due to be crowned by David Hardman, the chairman of Lach Dennis Parish Council, at 2pm, following the procession.

The theme of the fete is rhymes, riddles and poems, and event organiser Mary Savage has a penned a number of poems to promote the fete.

“We needed to do something different, as we get lots of support on the day but I wanted to encourage more people to come along to the meetings or share their ideas,” she said.

One of the poems Mrs Savage has written asks people if they can help in any way or have any ideas - below are two verses from the poem.

“If your time is limited on the day of the fete – could you deliver leaflets or collect donations: a book, a plant, a plate?

“Or if you have a great idea or a contact we could use – let us know and I am sure your help, we would not refuse.

“Anything you can contribute: old items, time or you – however big or small, it makes the difference whatever you do.

“Thanks for reading to the end, another leaflet, I’m sure there’ll be – we hope to hear or see you soon, much thanks, the fete committee.”

The fete includes performances by Barnton Silver Band and the Darnhall Dancers, a fancy dress event and the popular village races.

There will be 20 stalls, games, cream teas, and admission is £1 for adults, with children being admitted free, all funds raised going to the church.

The 2015 fete raised £1,530 towards church and village room repairs.
