MEMBERS of 1st Lostock Gralam Cubs have hiked their way to victory.

Over the weekend of June 11 and 12 Tatton Park Scout Activity Centre hosted the Mid Cheshire District Cub mini hike.

A total of 20 teams of Cub Scouts from across Mid Cheshire had to plot a route around Tatton Park from six-figure grid references then hike the route without adults while carrying a rucksack full of kit.

During the hike they completed several staged activities including knot tying, first aid, flags of the World, countryside code and many more scouting topics.

The teams then had to put up their tents and prepare their sleeping area before eating a well-earned evening meal.

The activities throughout the day earned points which counted towards the winners shield.

“The weekend was a complete washout with some extremely heavy showers, but Cubs being Cubs they embraced the outdoors and enjoyed letting off some steam,” said Paul Clarke, ACL 1st Lostock Gralam Scout Group.

“As a treat Sunday was spent on the lake in canoes followed by backwoods cooking over an open fire and finally enjoying a street party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday.”

The winners of the district mini hike shield were Tom Davenport, nine, Ben Dunville, nine and Joseph Clarke, nine, from 1st Lostock Gralam Cubs, Wednesday Wolves pack.

“Our thanks go out to Gary Evans for organising the weekend and to all leaders and volunteers who helped support him in their many varied roles,” added Paul.
