TESCO Express in Northwich is now equipped with a life-saving defibrillator thanks to the tireless work of an employee who lost her son to an unexpected heart condition.

Andrew Boden, 26, died of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) in 2007.

Following his death, his mum, Linda Boden, partnered with SADS UK, a charity that works with the community to put defibrillators in public places.

And as a result of her tireless fundraising, Tesco has installed a number of defibrillators in 37 Express stores across the UK, including the store in Chester Road, Northwich.

Linda Boden, customer assistant at Tesco, said: “I’m extremely grateful to Tesco and the store managers in the north west for helping me to pursue my aspirations to fundraise for such a worthy cause which is close to my heart.

“When Andrew died nine years ago there were no defibrillators in our local area, today there are 20. Andrew's last words on this Earth were 'Goodnight mum, love you, see you tomorrow', but for Andrew tomorrow never came and I will treasure those words forever.”

With help and support from SADS UK, Linda hosted and provided support for a number of fundraising activities across a number of Tesco stores in the north west.

Angela Morris, SADS UK north west co-ordinator, supported Linda at the store fundraiser events.

Linda's efforts has helped raise more than £33,000 between August and December 2015.

The funds were donated to SADS UK, which in turn arranged for the defibrillators to be installed in Tesco stores and training for staff to be carried out.

A defibrillator works to restore the heart rhythm if a person goes into cardiac arrest. At the time of Andrew’s death, no defibrillators were available for public use.

Anne Jolly, founder of SADS UK and the Ashley Jolly SAD Trust, said: “We are delighted that Tesco understood the need for defibrillators in their stores as the early use of a defibrillator in a cardiac arrest emergency gives the patient the very best chance of survival.

“It was great to see store staff so enthusiastic about putting the equipment in place and generous customers supporting their efforts.

“SADS UK is committed to help communities put the defibrillator in place to save live.”
