RUNNING festival organisers have received “amazing feedback” following the success of Sunday’s event.

The Northwich Festival of Running was held at Carey Park, and attracted more than 400 entrants across the 2K fun run and 5K and 10K trail races.

The event was organised by Northwich Running Club, and club chairman Alan Wilcox thanked everyone who took part and supported the festival.

“It was a huge team effort, and the feedback has been amazing,” said Alan.

“The aim was to promote activity, the use of the area and to try and start people thinking that joining running clubs is not for elite runners only.

“We had 403 entrants, there were lots of parents and grandparents supporting too, and we have been complimented by many for the organisation and friendly atmosphere.

“The fun run proved a great success, and I have a sore throat from shouting and cheering them all to the finish.

“The feedback from the 5K and 10K runners was great, and one experienced Warrington Running club member said he would be bringing his club mates back to use the parks to train.

“Hopefully the town will see the event as a great thing for Northwich, and we can grow to continue to encourage participation even more.”

Alan thanked Active Cheshire, Brio Leisure and Pure Gym for their support, as well as Theresa Candy, Graham and Cheryl Evans and their family, Air Cadets and volunteers, Mike Harrington from Cute Fruits running events, Roberts Bakery and Abigail and Debbie from Box of Treats.

“Thanks also go for the upfront funding from Active Cheshire and Northwich Town Council, which reduced our risk,” he said.

“We will have made a small profit, which we will be able to use to fund next year’s event.

“Getting people active and keeping them active is about building confidence and helping them feel included and part of something.

“So many people I come across are amazed that running clubs aren’t just for what they see as elite runners.”

From its launch a few months ago the Northwich junior parkrun is attracting about 120 children and parents.
