A MAN suffered a bleed to the brain after he was punched at a private party in Rudheath, police have confirmed.

The incident happened last Saturday night in Booth Grove when a 36-year-old man was floored by a single blow.

He was subsequently taken to hospital but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the assault and later released on bail.

Insp Dave Snasdell, from Northwich LPU, said: “During the late evening, a 36-year-old male was assaulted following an earlier dispute at a private party in the Rudheath area of Northwich.

“The victim was taken to hospital and treated for trauma to the head.

“The suspect, a 35-year-old male, was arrested and interviewed and is currently on police bail whilst the investigation continues.”

The incident is the latest in a number of one-punch attacks in Northwich over the last 12 months.

In the early hours of October 4, 2015, Adam Jones, 27, delivered a single blow to a 26-year-old man with such force that he fell to the floor and cracked his head on the pavement.

The attack happened outside The Quayside, Witton Street.

Jones, from Bradbury Road, Winsford, was jailed to 12 months imprisonment on February 10 after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Insp Snasdell told the Guardian that following the incident, The Quayside have taken on new door staff and are now equipped with body cams.

Chief Insp Simon Meegan, who heads up Northwich’s local policing unit, said intoxication is often a factor in these cases.

“These are single punches which potentially have life-changing or fatal consequences,” Chief Insp Meegan said.

Chief Insp Meegan said that on the whole, Northwich does not have a ‘violent night-time economy’.

“What we don’t have here is a Wild West,” he said. “Most people go out and enjoy themselves but we do get some incidents.

“People just need to think about the consequences, think about what you’re getting involved with because it can be life changing.”
