AMBITIOUS young boxer Adam Evans has his sights set on the British light welterweight title.

The 23-year-old from Greenbank gained his professional boxing licence a few weeks ago, and is looking forward to his first fight as a professional.

Adam began boxing when he was eight, and trains with his coach Frank Collins at the Boxing fit Academy at Lostock Youth Club at Lostock.

He boxed twice as an amateur, winning both bouts on unanimous decisions, and decided to seek his professional licence to further his ambitions to make boxing a career.

His first bout was in February 2015 at Nantwich Civic Hall, followed two months later by his second victory at Lostock Sports and Social Club, both bouts being three rounds of three minutes.

Soon after his second success he applied to the British Boxing Board of Control for his professional licence, and heard a few weeks ago that his application had been successful.

“I want to go all the way in the sport, and box as much as I can,” said Adam, a father of three children aged seven months to three.

“My ultimate aim is to go for the British title – there are three belts, the WBA, WBO and IBF, and I want to go for all of them.

“I plan to make my professional debut in the next 12 weeks at a venue in the north west.

“We’re going to hand-pick my opponent as I want to create a bit of a show for my first fight and then look to step it up a bit.

“I train at the Boxing Fit Academy, and hope to fight five or six times over the next year.

“Boxing is my life – it’s something I can’t live without, and it teaches you a lot of life skills.

“I’ve got a big fan base already, and I’m quite well known in the Northwich area.”

Adam is a former member of Winsford, Warrington and Phoenix Fire Boxing Clubs, and his manager is former professional heavyweight boxer Geoff Hunter from Winsford.

His interest in boxing was sparked by his mum Sharon, who is an amateur boxing judge, and he thanked her and Frank Collins for their support.

Frank is one three coaches at the Boxing Fit Academy, along with Martin Dunwoody and John Preece.
