A MAN was rescued from the River Dane in Northwich this afternoon.

At around 2.50pm today, a man was found in the water at the bottom of an embankment on London Road, near Vicars Way Park, by a member of public.

The man, who is believed to be in his 50’s, was conscious at the time, police confirmed.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “A male believed to be in his 50s was found underneath a bridge by a member of the public.

“He was still conscious, and the member of the public stayed with him until emergency services arrived. He was then taken to hospital."

The man was handed into the care of paramedics after being recovered from the river by water rescue teams.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “A man was rescued from water at the bottom of an embankment on London Road.

“The line rescue swift water rescue teams attended the incident.

"The casualty was stabilised by the swift water team while the line rescue team set up ropes and height rescue equipment.

“The casualty was brought up to safety and handed into the care of paramedics. Police officers were also in attendance.”
