TWO casual vacancies have been announced for Kingsmead Parish Council.

A notice released by council said it is anticipated the vacancies will be filled by co-option at a meeting of the parish council to be held on June 18, 2016.

However, a by-election could be called if ten electors for Kingsmead request one in writing.

The notice said: “Notice is hereby given that two casual vacancies have arisen for the office of parish councillor for the parish of Kingsmead unless an election is claimed by ten electors for the parish ward in writing to the returning officer, Cheshire West and Chester Council, County Hall, Chester, CH1 1SF, within 14 days from the date of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, bank holidays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and any day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning.”

The vacancies have been announced after Cllr Paul Salmon and Cllr Mike Channon have decided to give up their seats on the council.

Jo O’Donoghue, Kingsmead Parish Council clerk, said: “Both councillors have been councillors for quite a period of time.

“Paul Salmon is looking to move out of the area. Mike Channon has done his time and is ready for retirement. He thought about leaving in January but decided to stay on.”

Mrs O’Donoghue confirmed a two people are interested in filling the vacancies.

She said: “We’re absolutely delighted more than one person is interested.”

Anyone who wants to be considered for the vacancy should send an application giving brief details and qualifications in writing to 231 Hartford Road, Davenham, Cheshire, CW9 8JT.
