SWIMMING club volunteer Nicola Williams has made a major splash with her new hairstyle.

Nicola, 31, from Northwich, had her head shaved to raise money for the Cheshire Penguins Swimming Club, where she is a volunteer.

The club is for children and adults with learning disabilities, and competes in the Special Olympics.

Nicola’s 11-year-old nephew Harry Williams is a club member, and Nicola raised £300 for the club by having her head shaved by her mum Linda.

The head shave took place at the swimming pool at Sir John Deane’s College, where the club trains.

“Nicola wanted to do something for the club, and asked for sponsors for the head shave,” said her mum Linda.

“She could not do anything like a parachute jump or climbing because she has problems with her knees, and decided she wanted to do a head shave – she quite likes her new hair style.”

Nicola is coming to the end of the first year of a three-year degree in neighbourhood and community studies at Bolton University.

Harry scored success at a north west regional gala at Liverpool last weekend, taking silver in the 50-metre freestyle and bronze in the 25-metre freestyle, and came fifth in the 25-metre backstroke.

Cheshire Penguins Swimming Club was founded by Anne Calvert in 1985.
