A MAN was injured in a fight in Northwich town centre in the early hours of Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the altercation between two men, which happened near to the Halifax bank, in Witton Street, between 2am and 2.30am.

A 24-year-old man from the area sustained serious injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital.

Chf Insp Simon Meegan, from Northwich police, said: "This is a particularly violent attack on a young man who has since required surgery for his injuries.

"Assaults of this nature are rare and we are particularly keen for any witnesses who were in the Witton Street area at approximately 2.30am to get in touch."
