NORTHWICH Running Club is promising a ‘fabulous’ day out at a running festival at Carey Park.

The Northwich Festival of Running takes place at the park on Sunday, June 19, and will offer a choice of three runs catering to all abilities and ages.

The 2K Fun Run for beginners and families starts at 9am, followed by chip-timed 5K and 10K trail races.

“Northwich Running Club are proud to present their first large-scale event, which is set to be a fabulous family day out,” said club founder and chairman Alan Wilcox.

“The routes will explore Northwich’s ‘hidden’ parkland trails, taking you through the tranquil Northwich woodlands and into beautiful Cheshire countryside.

“There will be medals for everyone, and generous prizes for those who achieve pole positions.

“True to the club’s inclusive ethos, tail-runners will be at hand to ensure nobody gets left behind, and entrants are encouraged to go at whatever pace they’re most comfortable with.

“Those who don’t want to run are welcome to come, cheer on the participants and enjoy the atmosphere and family entertainment.”

Northwich Running Club has been awarded funding for the event from Active Cheshire and Northwich Town Council, and will be joined on the day to help celebrate by other local running clubs, Brio Leisure and Lee Wilkinson, a sports massage therapist.

“It’s great Brio are supporting us, especially with them recognising the need to invest more in sport and recreation in Cheshire,” said Emma Puzylo, club secretary and run leader.

“Lee is not only a top-class sports therapist, but an athlete in his own right, competing in a number of ultra-marathons.

“He has been a valuable asset to the club, providing educated advice and boosting morale. It’s a pleasure to have him join us.”

Alan added: “The day is about enjoying the outdoors and celebrating running in the community, ideals at the core of Northwich Running Club, which was created to help dismiss the myth that running in clubs is only for elite athletes.

“We hope these races show running is fun and can be a family activity.”

Since NRC started last year, it has grown from eight members to more than 180.

“It’s unbelievable how far we’ve come, and a testament to the values at the heart of the club and our vision to cater for all abilities,” said Emma.
