A NEW club aims to get people giggling and improve their lives.

The first 'Laugh to Feel Good Club' takes place at Whitegate Recreation Room at 7.30pm on May 1, World Laughter Day, with a second at St John's church hall, in Sandiway, at 7.30pm on May 16.

World Laughter Day has been celebrated since 1998 to highlight the laughter yoga movement set up by Dr Madan Kataria and encourage people to enjoy laughter to enrich their lives.

Complementary therapists Helen Avraam and Claire Britton will lead the mid Cheshire club and teach participants the skills to help increase feelgood emotions, aid relaxation and reduce stress.

'Partners in laughter' Helen and Claire have recently trained in Laughter Therapy, which uses a variety of yoga type breathing exercises and joyful, playful activities designed to provoke spontaneous, infectious laughter.

They say it has been found that feel good endorphins are increased by this therapy and help the reduction of pain, boost the immune system, aid relaxation, decrease stress, reduce blood pressure and encourage genuine enthusiasm for life.

Initially two sessions will be run each month will be run in the local community – on the first Sunday of the month at Whitegate and on the third Monday of the month at Sandiway.

Each session will last an hour-and-a-half and costs £7 per person.

Helen and Claire are also eager to bring laughter into local workplaces where the exercises have been proven to strengthen relationships, diffuse workplace tension and promote bonding within teams.
