A FIRM is working with police to step up security at its industrial sites to deter intruders.

Tata Chemicals Europe has increased security at its Winnington and Lostock sites following a number of recent attempts by intruders to gain entry to them.

The company is urging people to be aware of the potential dangers of unauthorised entry to industrial sites.

Phil Davies, general manager, business services, at Tata, said: "Our security teams have recently stopped a number of unauthorised people seeking to enter our sites, usually out of curiosity.

"With the Easter Bank Holiday weekend coming up it's really important to issue a reminder that our sites, like all manufacturing sites, are places which carry a number of hazards for those who might be tempted to gain unauthorised access.

"We urge people to remember, and remind their families, that all of our sites are in operation 24/7, and have live electricity cables and infrastructure, as well as other potential hazards - they are not safe places to explore or play."
