TEAMS of volunteers took to the streets of Northwich to give neighbourhoods a right royal makeover.

Volunteers from Northwich Town Council, The Little Treats Co and Northwich Rugby Club tidied up areas of Danefields and Castle as part of the national call to Clean for the Queen.

The UK-wide initiative, organised to mark the monarch's 90th birthday year, saw the groups tackling overgrown footpaths and picking litter, focussing on paths leading to the River Dane and railway in the Danefields area and on Castle Hill.

This was also the fifth in a series of Give and Gain Days organised by Northwich Town Council and Roberts Bakery, the parent company of Little Treats.

Garry Thomas, lead engineer at Little Treats, said: "I'm pleased to be involved in this programme, which has already made a very positive contribution to our local community.

"This is the second clean-up day that I have been on and it is really rewarding to see the results of our hard work and how the residents notice the difference it makes to spaces that they use every day."

Volunteers were also rewarded with royal-themed biscuits made by Little Treats to mark the Clean for the Queen initiative.

Cllr Andy Stott, Northwich's mayor, said: "This has been another great example of a local business stepping up to help out with the Give and Gain initiative.

"It was also an ideal opportunity to contribute to the Clean for the Queen event.

"I would like to thank all of the volunteers for their hard work."
