MID Cheshire’s best and worst GP practices have been revealed.

Surgeries in Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich have been ranked as part of a new patient satisfaction survey.

The GP Patient Survey has rated The Weaver Vale Surgery on Dene Drive, Winsford as the top surgery in the area with a 94 per cent happiness rating, while Weaverham Surgery on Northwich Road in the village came bottom of the table with a rating of just 65 per cent.

The area’s GP surgeries are looked after by two Clinical Commissioning Groups – the Vale Royal CCG and the Southern Cheshire CCG.

Northwich and Winsford’s practices are under the control of Vale Royal CCG. Collectively 86 per cent of patients rated the surgeries in the towns as good – one per cent above the national average.

Middlewich’s Watersedge and Oaklands surgeries are looked after by the Southern Cheshire CCG. Patients gave Watersedge a 90 per cent ‘good’ rating and 88 per cent to Oaklands. The CCG average was 85 per cent – the same as the national average.

The England-wide survey provides practice-level data about patient experiences of their GP practices, measuring their experiences of waiting times, care quality, opening times, making appointments and out of hours services.

A total of 3,538 people took part in the survey across both CCGs.

Weaverham Surgery scored just 23 per cent when it came to saying how easy it was in getting an appointment on the phone with the Vale Royal average being 56 per cent. High Street Surgery in Winsford was the highest with 82 per cent. At the two Middlewich practices the rating was the same – 74 per cent.

When it comes to the success in getting an appointment, Danebridge Practice in Northwich came out on top with a 91 per cent rating. Witton Street Surgery was the lowest with 72 per cent. The national average is 85 per cent.

In Vale Royal an encouraging 93 per cent of residents had confidence and trust in their GP, while in Southern Cheshire that figure was 93 per cent, with Watersedge hitting the 96 per cent mark.

Residents’ confidence and trust in nurses wasn’t as positive, with 83 per cent satisfied with them in Southern Cheshire and 82 per cent in Vale Royal.
