TWO lucky players from Northwich have scooped the lion’s share of a £3 million People’s Postcode Lottery prize pot walking away with cheques for a massive £400,000 each.

Players from Northwich found out last week that their postcode CW8 1 was the winning postcode sector in People’s Postcode Lottery’s January Postcode Millions.

It wasn’t until Saturday at a special cheque presentation held at the Mere Golf Resort and Spa that the postcode CW8 1SG was revealed as the full winning postcode.

The two winners, Caroline Askew and Kim Harding, who both played with the full winning postcode, scooped the lion’s share of the prize.

The event saw 185 residents in the winning postcode sector, CW8 1, share a £3 million prize pot, with prizes ranging from £11,000 - £400,000.

Caroline Askew, 42, attended the celebration with her husband Donald, 52.

Caroline, a teaching assistant at Hertford High School said; “This is just amazing, this has completely secured our future. This means my husband Donald can now retire, we can pay off the mortgage and I would really like a new dog."

Donald, an IT Consultant, has got his eyes on an Aston Martin but the couple are definitely planning to spoil their two children Will, 15, and Abbie, 14.

“Our children are dying to go to America on holiday so a trip to Florida and California is on the cards,” said Donald.

Caroline, who is originally from Essex, only moved her family to Northwich eight years ago and is absolutely delighted she made the move: “This is definitely the luckiest place we’ve ever lived! I just can’t believe we’ve won.”

Next up to collect her cheque was computer science teacher Kim Harding, 51, who attended the celebration with her husband Mervyn, 55. Kim said: “It’s my son Sam’s birthday tomorrow, we’ll definitely be able to celebrate his birthday in style. We’ve got a holiday booked to Canada in July to visit my sister Tracy, who I’ve just woken up at 2.30am to tell her about my win, but I think I’ll need to book another holiday for the Easter break now.”

Kim had a feeling that her luck might be in as she had an itchy palm the night before: “I Googled reasons for itchy palms and it said it could mean I was set to receive some money, I certainly turned out to be right!” said Kim.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt said: “This is the first time we’ve ever been to Northwich for a Postcode Millions and it has been an absolutely brilliant day. We have loved seeing the reactions of all the excited winners and I hope they enjoy treating themselves. Congratulations to all the winners.”
