A VICTORIAN Christmas will bring a sprinkling of festive magic to a Northwich tourist attraction.

The Lion Salt Works, in Marston, is holding a range of seasonal activities for families on December 5 and 6.

Children can follow a trail of fairy lights through the museum's butterfly garden to the Winter Wonderland Grotto where they can meet Father Christmas and give him their letters.

Family craft activities will be available in the historic Thompson suite, including making Christmas cards and paper chain decorations as well as writing letters to Father Christmas.

Three historic steam engines will be on display courtesy of Clive Hearsey and other Cheshire steam enthusiasts who will be on hand to talk about the engines.

These include two Burrell double clutch compound speed locos called Lady Louise and Alexander as well as Bessie, a scale model tractor engine.

Visitors can find out about traditional crafts like bodging, weaving, spinning, felt-making and crocheting.

Christmas shoppers can also enjoy browsing in the museum's shop.

Rivendell Choir will sing Christmas carols and the Cheshire Brass Band will perform between 11.30am and 2pm.

The seasonal activities are free of charge and take place from 10.30am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday.

Cllr Louise Gittins, Cheshire West and Chester Council's cabinet member for culture, leisure and wellbeing, said: "The Lion Salt Works is a unique set of buildings and is a simply magical setting for a Victorian Christmas.

"It is hard to convey just how atmospheric the site is without going along.

"I hope everyone takes this opportunity of making it along to the Museum for this special festive event."
