VILLAGERS are being invited to take part in a festive lantern parade in Barnton next Friday, November 27.

Following the first Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Jubilee Corner three years ago the event has grown, and there are now three trees to illuminate with festive lights.

The trees are at Barnton Community Primary School, Rosebank School and Jubilee Corner.

The switch-on at Rosebank School and Jubilee Corner will take place at 6.30pm, shortly after the tree is lit at the primary school following the school’s Christmas fair, which runs from 3.30pm to 6pm.

Lanterns will be available at the primary school for the lantern walk to Rosebank School, where there will be carol singing accompanied by Barnton Silver Band, along with mulled wine and mince pies for adults and juice and cakes for children.

“We are to be accompanied on the lantern walk by Christmas tunes, and hope that residents along Townfield Lane will help to make it a jolly event for the children involved,” said Cllr Dilys Hooper, chairman of Barnton Parish Council, which is organising the lighting-up event.

“If you are happy to act as a walking marshal on the night please make yourself known on arrival and we can issue you with a fluorescent vest.”
