NORTHWICH covers band Coversdotcom was overwhelmed by the support for a sell-out charity show.

More than 220 fans of 60s and 70s music packed into Lostock Sports and Social Club on Saturday for a memorable evening for Children in Need.

The show was described by keyboard player John Merrimen as one of the band’s best shows, and he thanked everyone who came along and supported the fundraiser.

Coversdotcom are a pop-rock function band, and perform songs from the 50s to the present day, from The Beatles to Kings of Leon, Fleetwood Mac to Amy Winehouse, Chuck Berry to Pink.

The other band members are Lorraine Buckles from Anderton, Phil Webb from Barnton, and brothers Kevin and Brendan McCarth, from north Wales and Rudheath respectively.

The band performed for free at Rumours at the club, and the evening included a raffle and auction.

“It was a particularly bleak night weather-wise, but it was a sell-out and one of the best gigs we’ve done,” said John, from Davenham.

“We thought we might have about 100 people there because we had organised it very quickly.

“However there were more than 220 in the audience, and we were overwhelmed by the atmosphere and how many turned up – everyone’s enthusiasm was unbelievable.

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who turned out and those who bought tickets knowing they couldn't be there, as they all helped us to a grand total of £1,200. Thank you all for your generosity.”

John thanked everyone who had supported the evening, including Martin Peak at the club, Dave’s Gym, Dial a Ride at Navigation Road and the Guardian for publicising the show.

“We played for three hours over two sessions, and thanks to everyone who donated the 50 prizes we had for the raffle.

“Also thanks to the very talented Christine Wright for her wonderful Pudsey cakes, which alone raised £130 when they were auctioned.

“Also we rarely say thanks to our other halves, so thanks for being ticket sellers, raffle organisers, drinks providers and roadies, and for putting up with all our musical shenanigans for all those years.”
