BARNTON parents are up in arms over their children’s shoes being covered in dog excrement.

The issue is one of numerous complaints related to dog owners who allow their pets to foul on paths and open grass areas in the village.

“Parents are understandably unhappy that their children’s shoes are becoming covered in excrement as they walk to and from school or are out playing,” said Barnton Parish Council chairman Dilys Hooper.

“Mother’s pram wheels and the wheels of wheelchairs are also falling foul of these piles of poo.”

Cllr Hooper said the number of fouling incidents had increased with the onset of the dark nights.

“The dog warden is aware we have an issue, and has confirmed that if a person is seen regularly allowing their pet to foul the pavements without clearing it up, and can be identified, they are happy to follow it up with a fine,” she said.

“The complainants will be able to contact the dog warden or the parish clerk if they have information.

“So if you are dog owner or walker please clean up after yourself for the benefit of everybody who walks the pavements along with you.”

The dog warden can be contacted on 0300 1238123, and to contact the parish clerk call 07849 344940.
