A DRAFT plan for the future of Northwich will be under the spotlight at a meeting in Winnington.

As part of the public consultation for the Northwich Neighbourhood Plan, town councillor Andrew Cooper will give a presentation at the next special speakers meeting, organised by the Rotary Club of Northwich.

The aim of the plan is to outline what the community values about its neighbourhood and how it wants Northwich to develop in the future.

The public consultation was launched at the end of October and finishes at the end of November.

Cllr Cooper said: "We've had a great response so far – 600 people have downloaded it or viewed it online and we've had 80 completed surveys so far.

"Well over 100 people came to exhibitions at Memorial Court and the feedback has been positive and constructive."

The neighbourhood plan team is holding small scale exhibitions at Roberts Bakery, Mid Cheshire College and Sir John Deane's College so that it can reach workers and students and more public exhibitions are also in the pipeline.

Cllr Derek Bowden, also a town councillor and a member of the neighbourhood plan group, said: "Northwich is growing and it's going to be a great town but only if we get the right things in the right place and at the right time."

The special speakers meeting also features an update on the flood defence work in the town centre from David Brown, from the Environment Agency.

It takes place at Winnington Park Recreation Club, in Park Road, on November 23 and includes a two-course buffet lunch.

Doors open at 11.45am, lunch is at 12.30 and the speakers will take to the floor at around 1.15pm.

Admission is £8.50, to cover the cost of the lunch, and places must be reserved by Friday, November 20.
