ROAD has been closed after a tree fell and brought down power lines, knocking out the electricity to 120 homes.

The A559 Northwich Road, in Antrobus, has been closed in both directions while repairs are carried out.

The tree fell at around 5.15am today near Seven Oaks Saddlery, between the junctions of the A559 with Old Lane and Pole Lane.

Engineers from Scottish Power managed to restore power to around 100 properties by 6.30am but repairs to the power cables are still ongoing.

Full power is expected to be restored by lunchtime.

A spokesman for Scottish Power said: "Initially there were about 120 properties off supply but we got 100 back by 6.30am so at the moment there between 20 and 25 properties off supply.

"They will be off until we can do a full repair.

"We're hoping to restore those properties by lunchtime.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

The road is expected to re-open at lunchtime, once repairs are complete.
