A WATERCOLOUR painting of a Northwich landmark by a renowned artist is on display in the landmark itself.

The iconic Northwich Library, in Witton Street, is showing the new painting by Gordon Wilkinson after staff spotted it in Cheshire Life magazine.

They got in touch with Gordon for a copy of the painting and were delighted when he offered to donate the original.

Gordon said: "The Northwich Library painting was painted as part of a Northwich feature; the library is a very beautiful old building and was therefore an obvious choice – in fact I don’t think a feature on Northwich would be complete without it."

Cllr Sam Naylor, Cheshire West and Chester councillor for the area, said: "It’s a really beautiful painting and we’re very grateful for Mr Wilkinson’s kind donation.

"The watercolour has been given pride of place in the local studies and computer room at the library, where all our visitors can enjoy it."

Gordon started painting in acrylics 20 years ago before moving into the medium of watercolour.

His work can often be seen exhibited in Cheshire's libraries and art galleries.

He conducts watercolour workshops and also teaches beginners and intermediate students at a number of local colleges.
