SALON owner Katie Hartley is celebrating success for her beauty salon and a fundraising boost for a leading cancer charity.

Katie owns Adorn Beauty at Longworths Hairdressers in Station Road, Lostock Gralam, and achieved a national industry accolade at Manchester.

Manchester Central hosted the North Nail Championships alongside Professional Beauty North.

Katie won the spa manicure category, and her therapist, Jade Mather, from Lostock Gralam, narrowly missed being placed by coming fourth.

“I was not expecting to win, and was delighted with the award,” said Katie.

The manicure was marked for the polish as well as personal presentation, hygiene and standard of treatment.

Katie and Jade’s models for the competition were Michelle Caulfield, Kitty Dixon, Jane Rogerson and Barbara Duncalf.

Katie was presented with an award and certificate and a £100 cheque to mark her success.

Later that week Katie, from Knutsford, set out to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The fundraiser was organised through her business and her family, and was held at her parents’ home in Lower Peover.

The event raised £1,077 through donations, raffle prizes, cake sales and hand and arm massages.

“Clients, friends and family attended the coffee morning, and there were about 100 people at my parents’ home,” said Katie.

“Jade and I did complimentary hand and arm massages, and we decided not to have any appointments at the salon at Longworths Barbers and Hairdressers so we could raise more money.

“We had cups of tea, coffee and homemade lemonade and lots of cakes.

“We also sold free range eggs, homemade lemon curd, strawberry jam and redcurrant jelly, many people donated raffle prizes, and friends and family brought cakes.”

“Jade and I and my parents, George and Noreen Dutton, would like to offer a massive thankyou to everyone who came and donated.

“We are overwhelmed with the sum raised, and everyone was so generous.”

Katie has been at Longworths for more than four years, and Jade, who worked at a spa hotel in Knutsford for three years, has been working for Katie for four months.
